Origin of the name
Enlil is an ancient god associated with wind, air, earth and storms. The main deity of the Sumerian pantheon, but was later worshiped by the Akkadians, Babylonians, Assyrians and Hurrians. According to one of the Sumerian hymns, Enlil himself was so sacred that even the other gods could not look at him.

Ningal's iconography is not consistent and has been depicted in many different ways. On the Ur-Nammu stele, Ningal is depicted sitting on her husband's lap. These types of performances were intended to show the intimate nature of the relationship between the deities and emphasize their ability to act in harmony.
